Kitagawa Utamaro was renowned for his bijinga woodblock prints, depicting beautiful women of his day, and other artworks that won the hearts of the people of Edo (now Tokyo).
Ōta Memorial Museum of Art located in Harajuku specializes in ukiyo-e. The museum has a collection of about 14000 pieces that were mainly collected by Seizō ŌtaⅤ(1893~1977), who was the former president of the Toho Mutual Life Insurance Company, throughout his lifetime. Since the museum in Harajuku opened in January 1980, it has continued to be active as one of the few museums specializing in ukiyo-e in Tokyo.
